Your field of work

The Business Unit Analytical Solutions (BU AS) offers worldwide consultancy which is strongly supported by specialized lab work, in the focus areas of Food Contact Materials (FCM), Emergency Response Service (ERS) and Bioanalysis. These areas are connected by the need for high-end technologies like GC-MS and LC-MS. Keeping a strong combination of consultancy expertise and technical expertise is key to deliver quality and short turnaround times to our customers.

To strengthen the BU AS, we are looking for an enthusiastic Scientific Contributor LC-MS with a main focus on FCM. One of the key services we provide is the screening of novel materials for presence of unknown chemical compounds. We rely on high resolution, high accuracy mass spectrometry (LC-HR-MS/MS) to detect and identify such Non-Intentionally Added Substances (NIAS).

You will join a professional, informal organization with an open culture, where people are strongly committed to taking initiative and personal responsibility. The customer focus combined with high-end scientific insight and knowledge of relevant laws and regulations ensure a unique positioning in the market.

Your tasks

  • Performing analyses using UPLC and UPLC-HR-MS/MS techniques.
  • Elucidate the identity of unknown chemical compounds present in food contact materials (non-intentionally added substances/NIAS is a field of increasing legislative interest which asks for creative and innovative analytical approaches) and in a wide variety of matrices for the ERS requests
  • Keep our LC-MS expertise at world class level, be an information source for your colleagues and have the ability to troubleshoot issues with the equipment
  • Independently develop and improve UPLC-(HR)-MS/MS methods for FCM/Biobased materials with a pragmatic hands-on mentality
  • Promote our expertise externally (congresses, lectures) and internally (develop knowledge and skills of lab technicians)
  • Proactively connect with the Project Managers to advise during the quotation phase, analytical approach, execution and reporting phase
  • Contribute to the business unit strategy in discussions on investments in instrumental infrastructure and new development areas

Your qualities

  • Relevant work experience as LC-MS expert (Orbitrap, TOF, Triple Quad) with a strong background in analytical or organic chemistry. (PhD/MSc/BSc with 5-10 years of experience in the field). Additional GC-MS experience is an advantage.
  • Demonstrable ability to interpret mass spectra and elucidate molecular structures from LC-HR-MS/MS data.
  • You are a fast learner, accurate and proactive, with a focus on problem solving.
  • Ability to switch easily between projects and comfortably working under time pressure to meet deadlines within budget.
  • Positive, energetic, social attitude and able to inspire colleagues as well as to work independently.
  • Good written and oral expression skills in the English and Dutch language.

We offer you challenging projects with various (inter)national companies, giving you the opportunity for professional development, growth and recognition. You will work with a professional and dynamic team of experienced professionals in a state-of-the-art lab environment. We are located centrally and can easily be reached by public transport, car and bike.
