Exposure scenarios (ES), Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and extended-S

An ES is a description of the Operational Conditions (OC) and the Risk Management Measures (RMMs) to ensure the safe use of a substance for humans and the environment.

The manufacturer/importer (M/I) is responsible for developing the ES stipulated in the Chemical Safety Report (CSR). The Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is the key tool for manufacturers/importers and formulators to communicate with downstream users on hazards, risks, proper handling and appropriate RMMs for substances and products. Under REACH, the ES is annexed to this extended Safety Data Sheet (e-SDS).

TNO Triskelion collaborates with customers to determine the level of specificity needed for the ES and e-SDS. The ES specificity level depends on the hazard of the substances and the complexity of usage. We can develop, together with M/I, formulators and downstream users, a widely applicable generic ES or a more detailed ES for specific uses.
